Bringing Back Tradition

So whatever happened to good ole Christmas tradition?  Caroling doesn't have to be a thing of the past.

My mother lives on a quiet dead end street, where an elderly woman resides also. My mother thought it would be a great idea if she could get a few people together to go caroling to her house. Of course with permission from her family she lives with, my mom quickly put together a night to remember.

With no time to spare, she recruited some family members and friends. With about 15 minutes of practice, we were off on our adventure. One house turned to two. We did go visit more but unfortunately they were not home. Quite sure they were probably out last minute shopping.

With that being said, we all had a great time. Vowing next year to do it again. Of course with more practice and more people. We had fourteen of us, great turnout for short notice, if I say so myself.  Afterwards, we went out to a local restaurant and when finished dining, serenaded our waiter as well.

My mother received a phone call the next morning. It was the family with the elderly mother, thanking her for making her night. She thoroughly enjoyed it. What a great gift.  Some traditions should never die, I'm thinking this is one of them.

A Winter's Day

A cold winter's day consist of morning weather and traffic reports, not to mention a long list of closings.  These are the days you long to stay in your pajamas under a blanket and hide from the world. Unfortunately you can't.

Back in the day when the world was slower and things were far more simpler, you simply curled up and stayed warm. Don't get me wrong, there were still things to take care of but people didn't feel the need to be on the road. Not like today when people just can't slow down a bit.

I hate to think of people being stranded in the cold on the side of the road somewhere. If that's not enough, wrecks galore. People know it's not safe but venture out anyways, putting not only their lives in jeopardy but others as well. May God keep everyone safe if they do have to go out.

Hopefully it happens on a weekend when most schools and companies are closed. If not, grab your winter gear and an extra blanket. Always make sure to fill your gas tanks, you never know what's going to happen so it's better to be prepared.  Always stay safe and warm when possible.

Christmas Cookies

When it comes to Christmas, we tend to think of Santa, trees, elves, and toys.  Let's not forget about all the goodies. You have fruitcake, candy canes, buckeyes, hard Christmas candy and of course cookies. I don't know about you but the cookies are my favorite, especially the homemade decorated ones.
For the last few years, my kids and I have been making candy and baking cookies. We have come to really like the decorating part. Each person gathers around the table and puts their artistic selves to work. I must say we sometimes amaze ourselves with the outcome. I do believe we get better every year.
My husband has decided that he is the ultimate cookie taster. Although you can't go to wrong with store bought dough. I do however make the icing from scratch. Either way, we try to accommodate him by accidentally messing a few up so he can taste them. It makes him happy and the kids are happy to oblige.
After our Christmas making/baking is finished, we neatly pack and distribute them to friends and family. This is our way of saying Merry Christmas from our house to yours.

Love Letter

A letter of love
From me to you
A gift from above
If only you knew

Words written in ink
So you never forget
Just what I think
About the day we met

You stole my heart
And made me cry
I loved you from the start
When I looked in your eye

Little fingers and toes
Soft baby skin
Even your nose
So much to take in

If you ever feel blue
Just read this letter
From me to you
To make you feel better

There's nothing so great
Than the love I have for you
From birth to date
If only you knew

As I watch you grow
so does my heart
I'll never let go
We'll never depart

From my very soul
Feelings so true
It was my heart you stole
The day I met you

Tis the Season

It's that time of year
All the lights and decorations
The choirs singing
Music to our ears

It's the season of giving
Not just receiving
The Lords word
To prove he's still living

We praise his name on high
In words of song
Let your voices be heard
Please don't be shy

We would not be here
Without his gift of life
To love one another
And spread Christmas cheer

Tis the season
To be joyous
And to be blessed
For he's the reason

Christmas in our Community

This is my favorite time of year. Christmas! I absolutely love my family and it brings me great joy to spend time with them during the holidays. It's not everyday that you get to see them smile and enjoy themselves like they do at these events.

Every year our city has a Christmas walk. They start with a tree lighting and then a parade. Afterwards their is all kinds of activities throughout the main town. Inside the city building you can visit Santa. At the local businesses you can find hot chocolate, coffee, and cookies to warm you up.

I must say that I look forward to this every year. Probably more now since my grandbabies are here. These are experiences your children will remember the rest of their lives. Hopefully they carry on the tradition with their families and make special memories of their own.

You know it's never to late to start your own traditions. Do what makes your family happy. Nothing can be more gratifying than to see them happy and smiling. It's a very heartwarming experience.

Making Memories

Children are very fragile human beings. It is up to their parents to see that they have what they need. You know make sure their fed, clothed, and taught. However, it is also imperative to give them happy memories.

It's my belief that children benefit better when they have a good strong family that supports them and loves them. Therefore, making memories to last a lifetime will inspire them to grow with love and passion. They will truly grow up understanding what family is about.

It's truly a blessing in today's world to have a family.  To have people around you that love and care about you.  People that can be there for you no matter what life throws at you.  Parents have the responsibility to make this happen for their children.

Make happy memories with your kids. Show them life can be more than hardship and turmoil.  Especially show them love. These things are important not only for their future but their children's future.

Finally at Peace

Finally at Peace I watched as you lay Each day I'd pray For God to keep you But he knew Each day you desired But yet you were...
